چکیده

Dr. Paulo E.M. Carrilho – Rua Santa Catarina 925 85801-040 Cascavel PR Brasil. E-mail: [email protected] Compression of the facial nerve by a cerebellopontine angle mass lesion, or by aberrant arteries in the posterior fossa can produce repetitive clonic and tonic contractions of one side of the face. Such condition is also observed after Bell ́s palsy as a tardive complication. In spite of being relatively uncommon, a specific VII nerve branch damage can eventually generate focal spasms. We report a patient with such manifestation after chronic compression of facial nerve in its parotid segment caused by a gland benign enlargement.

Intermittent facial spasms as the presenting sign of a recurrent pleomorphic adenoma

The intimate anatomical relationship of the facial nerve to the parotid parenchyma has a significant influence on the presenting signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of parotid neoplasms. However, to our knowledge, hyperactivity of this nerve, presenting as facial spasm, has never been described as the presenting sign or symptom of a parotid malignancy. We report a case of carcinoma aris...

Case Report: This is a case of a healthy 40-year-old man, which underwent surgery for a preoperatively diagnosed benign parotid gland lesion. After identification of the facial nerve main trunk, a single large mass (6 x 3 cm) incorporating the upper nerve d...

We report a 72-year-old Malay female with poorly-controlled diabetes mellitus who presented with a painful right parotid swelling associated with right facial nerve palsy. The paralysis (Grade VI, House and Brackmann classification) remained after six months.

Postoperative complications after extracapsular dissection of benign parotid lesions with particular reference to facial nerve function.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The desirable extent of surgical intervention for benign parotid tumors remains a matter of controversy. Superficial or total parotidectomy as a standard procedure is often said to be the gold standard; however, with it the risk of intraoperative damage to the facial nerve cannot be ignored. For some time now, extracapsular dissection without exposure of the main trunk of ...
